In the late 1990s, a slew of anti-Barney the Dinosaur sites cropped up on GeoCities, Angelfire, and pretty much every web host out there.
One of these sites was called "Into the Purple Abyss", which was probably the most highly-praised anti-Barney site. It won awards and recognition even from print publications.
The author, Brian Bull, wrote a variety of interesting and creative short stories about Barney taking over the world, usually with a humorous or satirical twist.
Unfortunately, Mr. Bull discontinued the site in the early 2000s.
The website is unavailable at the Web Archive, since Earthlink (the original host) blocks the web archive in its robots.txt.
Luckily, I preserved a copy of the site in 2002. It's not perfect; some images are broken, but the stories are all still there. As far as I know, this is the only place online where Into the Purple Abyss survives.
